Lorraine France - A Very Brief Overview

Lorraine is one of the 26 regions of France with two cities of equal importance that of Metz and Nancy. The town of Metz is the administrative capital of the region as it contains the local parliament and other administrative buildings. Since this region borders three different countries that of Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany the culture is different then other parts of France.

The influence that the three countries have on the local cuisine is apparent if you should ever venture into the restaurant district. Here you will see the distinctively French preparation to some Belgium, and German influenced dishes. I have to say that the combination is certainly worth checking out.

Lorraine does have some major communities that are all distinct in their own ways. Since this area has both a Romance and Germanic influences the area is very hard to classify as anything distinctly other then Lorraine.

In Lorraine you can find the following communities that are of interest.

  • Metz
  • Montigny-lès-Metz
  • Nancy
  • Épinal
  • Forbach
  • Lunéville
  • Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy
  • Verdun
  • Saint-Dié-des-Vosges
  • Sarreguemines
  • Thionville

Hopefully I will cover all of these communities in this blog in order to do them justice.
